Studies
CANVAS studies assess vaccine safety after the implementation of pandemic vaccine campaigns and provides a platform for vaccine acceptability studies
Since 2012, the network has extended its coverage into the general population including children to provide real time safety information to public health authorities.
Active Studies

FAQ
Why is this study being done?
What will happen if I sign up?
After enrolling, you will be sent a survey(s) that will ask some personal information (age group, sex and gender), information on any past confirmed related illness and any new health events since the vaccine. We want to know about any new health problems which prevent you or your child from going about regular daily activities and/or require you to seek medical care.
If you report a health problem which had you see a doctor or nurse, we may call you to find out more about the details of the health problem.
What do I get by participating?
There is no direct benefit if you decide to take part in any of these studies, but the information that will be collected might help us better understand the safety of the vaccines.
How is my privacy and confidentiality protected?
Participant confidentiality and privacy is of the utmost importance to the study team.
If you decide to participate, your email address, phone number and the first name of the participant (you or your child) will be kept on the secure server housed in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia. Only study staff will have access to your email address, phone number and first name. Survey responses (without contact information) will be downloaded for analysis by the study team and by provincial public health. All data will be deleted from the REDCap database at the end of the study.
No records which identify you will leave the researchers’ offices unless required by law.
You or your child will not be identified by name in any study reports.
How come the survey link is not working on my device?
The most common cause for the survey link not working is anti-virus software (e.g. McAfee). You may need to temporarily turn off your anti-virus settings while on the survey website. You can also try using a different device or different browser.
Is there a deadline to sign up for the vaccine safety survey?
Vaccinated participants will need to register within 1 week of receiving their vaccine.
What do the control surveys have to do with the illness?
The control surveys are tracking health events occurring in the community. If similar rates of certain health events are happening in the control group and vaccinated group, it is likely that the vaccines are not causing that health event.
Do I have to do these surveys?
This survey is not mandatory; you do not have to enrol if you do not want to.
